Hi Friends,

We are feeling great to thank you for the generous support you gave to the vocational center school in Duchity. With your help, take a look at these pictures to see where your money went to. That building wasn't made to teach, it was built as a place for the teacher, students and group of visitors to spend time.

The parents and the youth come from all over the community to get information about what are the skills and options, and when the school will start.

So that we would like to let you know the importance it has to open the door, this October 13th 2014 - even if the dorm or the place are not completely finished - We will still use it to start to teach!

SKILLS AND CONTACTS:

As for the pick up the skills, we spent about three months talking to teachers and students in 21 locations in the community. The community has about 52 elementary schools and 15 secondary schools. So these are the priorities:
  • Techniques Of Agriculture
  • Masonry
  • Plumbing

  • Tiles Computer
  • English Lessons
Less requested:  Woodworking, Electricity, Welding

RESOURCES:

All the teachers are from the locations in the community of Duchity. They were living in Port-au-Prince, but now they are feeling so happy to be back home so they may keep others home by learning a profession. At the same time, this initiative encourages the Technicians born from Duchity, who currently live in Port-au-Prince, to come back home.

TO START THE SCHOOL, WE HAVE:
  • 3 Teachers For The Masonry Class
  • 2 Teachers For The Techniques Of Agriculture Class
  • 1 Teacher For Tiles Tech Class

  • 1 Teacher For Computer Class
  • 1 Teacher Plumbing Class
  • 1 Teacher For English Class

Preparing the Electrical Class
About 100 students are registered for those six classes.  15 students have also registered for Electricity, Woodworking and Welding and there are also teachers for these.

Because we are still in need, your support is still really important to help taking  care of the tools, teachers and to continue to build. For we don't have any workshop built yet.

An old quote says: "Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, but teach him how to fish you'll feed him for the life"

Big thanks to you,

Jean Despagne Felix
Executive director
