Tom’s Humane Infrastructure Development System, (H.I.D.S. for short)

What is the Humane Infrastructure Development System H.I.D.S.?
For the last four year we have been developing an innovative construction system designed for use in places such as Haiti. It is designed to use resources and skills already in place in Haiti. These include concrete and masonry construction. The vocational students at the school in Duchity have become very adept at building using this system.
Prior to Hurricane Matthew, a 24 foot in diameter dome was built at the school to serve as a computer science classroom. When the hurricane hit it survived intact while the adjacent elementary school lost walls built with reinforced concrete construction. What allowed the dome to survive was its design, as well as how it was put together.

As of May, 2017 seven more domes have been built in Duchity. We call these structures Haitian Kitchens. The truth is that the families use them as they choose. Some are used as kitchens, some as bedrooms, and some will be business spaces. All of them can be used as storm shelters during severe storms.
We have also built a water filter using these panels. The goal is to be able to manufacture bio-sand water filters in Duchity. This project is still under development.
We are also building a solar assisted, composted septic system. This has potential to create an ongoing source of clean human manure for agricultural purposes.
We have plans to be able to use this construction system to build cisterns and other types of building. People in Haiti want this type of structure.
