While the list of needs in Haiti is immense, VHP has earmarked the following items as fundamental in continuing the mission for our self-sustaining programs:

2012 Vermont Haiti Project Program Needs

Ecole Foyer d'Espoir, the VHP sponsored school and community center in Port au Prince.        

  • Support a child for a year:  $300  per student ( Includes tuition, uniforms, supplies)
  • Support a teacher's salary:  $1500  (annual salary)
  • Support school lunch program for 210 people: $500 per month = $5000

Vocational Training Center in Duchity

  • Expected cost:  $200,000

VHP expects to open this center in the rural mountain village in fall, 2012.  Land has been purchased and the first buidling- a dormitory- has been constructed.  Plans are under way for the construction of classrooms, and a community center.  The center will train and educate local residents, eliminating the need for them to move to Port au Prince.

Bio-sand filtration project. 

  • Each water filter costs $100.00

Cost covers the cost of the filter, and a salary for our Haitian partners to construct the filter, and install it in a family’s home.

VHP supported Rural Medical Clinic in Desab

        The medical clinic is no longer an officially program; However, VHP is still working with other groups to insure much needed health care in this rural community.
        Accordingly, donations are still being accepted for the clinic:

  • Salaries for the doctor, dentist, nurses, pharmacist and health agents
  • Medicine
  • Medical supplies
  • Office and medical furniture / equipment
