“DOVE”, the rural vocational training center, was accepted as a full fledged Vermont Haiti Project program earlier this year and already building are going up!
Project manager Despagne Felix recently snapped these pictures of the construction; this is phase #1 of a large scale plan to build classrooms, dorms and meal/recreational facilities.
The main purpose of DOVE will be to train rural Haitians in various trades; training they previously could only obtain by traveling a great distance to Port au Prince or other large cities. Initially, according to Felix, residents will be trained in industrial skills, such as electrical and mechanical. The plan is to eventually branch out to include sewing, culinary and other domestic trades.
Duchity is located on a mountain, approximately seven hours by car from Port au Prince.
